Spectra Events
We're always seeking ways to best support the physics student community. See below for our calendar, as well as information on departmental events. Remember to sign up for our mailing list!
Our programming includes:
Snack and Solve is a group study and work session that we host every Wednesday from 7-9pm in the 8th floor Pupin Theory Center. Enjoy free pizza while getting help from graduate TAs and your peers on your physics problem sets!
Before every Spring and Fall registration period, we host a Q&A session where physics and physics-related majors can ask upperclassmen for information and advice on the courses they are considering taking.
As part of our yearlong program helping undergrads learn about and find exciting research opportunities, we host panels of students who have previously participated in various summer physics programs (including REUs, SULIs, and SURFs), organize application workshops, and invite guest speakers from Undergraduate Research & Fellowships (URF).
We organize, host, and collaborate on information sessions and discussions throughout the year, allowing undergrads to hear from faculty and current graduate students about the grad school application process. During application season, we also run a peer-editing program, connecting undergrads with each other along with graduate student readers as they revise their statements of purpose.
Open to all undergrads! As an alternative to traditional directed reading programs, which require a more senior student to lead a group, we facilitate the formation of small groups of undergrads based on common topic interests, without designated directors. Instead, as groups progress through their chosen reading material during the semester, members give rotating mini lectures at each meeting, providing everyone with the opportunity to equally participate.
These reading groups are a wonderful way to explore physics topics more deeply, prepare in advance for future coursework, and build presentation and discussion skills with friends!
Every semester before finals, students can play with therapy dogs to destress during exam season. We offer these sessions in collaboration with Alice! Health
These include our annual Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream Night and Frozen Candy Night!
